Senegal to Benin Mangrove Forest Management Project (PGFM) - Projet clôturé
A multi-stakeholder project to facilitate and ensure the management and conservation of mangrove forests. Eclosio is responsible for implementation in Guinea on the Tristao Islands.
Context
As part of the European Union’s PAPBio programme, which specifically aims to achieve integrated protection of biodiversity and fragile ecosystems and enhanced resilience to climate change, the IUCN has received a grant to implement a project called ‘Management of mangrove forests from Senegal to Benin’. The overall objective of the project is to achieve integrated protection of mangrove diversity and fragile ecosystems in West Africa and enhance their resilience to climate change.
Eclosio's action
The action illustrates the lessons learned from previous programmes and projects in the field of mangrove ecosystem conservation. To this end, the action will combine conservation, restoration and sustainable livelihood enhancement and security activities; capacity building and knowledge base development; policy influence, partnership and synergy development and optimisation; and the establishment of shared governance mechanisms and functional frameworks for consultation and dialogue between stakeholders, including the private sector.
The mangrove forest management project specifically aims to:
- Strengthen stakeholders involved in the management of protected areas and unprotected mangrove sites
- Link governance and production systems with mangrove conservation structures at the territorial level
- Promote exchanges between stakeholders at the decision-making level on land use and best practices
- Establish or strengthen platforms for dialogue within landscapes
- Provide grants to support management and conservation actions
The IUCN, as the lead applicant for the grant, is leading the implementation of the entire project. Wetland International and the 5Deltas Collective (represented by Eclosio), as co-applicants, will each play the role of Lead Partner for the Priority Conservation Landscapes (Grand Saloum, Basse Casamance, Grand Mano and Mono volta) for which they are responsible within the framework of this project.
