Healthy school environment in the communities of Aroma, San Martin and Ucumasi - Salinas de Garci Mendoza, Oruro - Projet clôturé

In the municipality of Salinas, 51.72% of the population does not have access to drinking water and 84.36% do not have sanitary facilities. These rates are even lower in remote villages, such as the communities of Aroma, San Martín and Ucumasi where infrastructure is almost non-existent (less than 5% of the population is connected).

To meet this challenge, the school approach has been prioritized for its quick impact, lower cost and medium-term outlook for attitude change.

Our action

The project aims to guarantee access to drinking water and sanitary facilities in the municipality of Salinas de Garcí Mendoza. The project will equip 3 schools with water and sanitation infrastructure. In parallel, water school committees will be created and strengthened to be able to maintain the facilities. School programs will integrate hygiene and sanitation themes and families will be sensitized through radio spots created by children.
