Dissemination of innovative experiences in participatory management – mangroves and territories (DEMETER) - Projet clôturé
Mangrove areas represent a fundamental natural resource and play a major role in the economy given the resources they provide to local populations. This resource is declining due to the combined effects of natural factors, climate change and human activity. The basic needs of local populations (food, income, medicine, culture, etc.) are being impacted by the decline of mangroves.
Beneficiaries:
- 10 GPED operators (including at least 5 women’s organisations) selected to implement GPED tools.
- 500 people exploiting natural resources (fishermen, oyster farmers, beekeepers, etc.)
- Elected officials and local leaders
Financial partners of the project: (operational partners will already be listed on the general country page):
- European Union
- Puressentiel Foundation
The final beneficiaries of the project’s actions will be the populations of the five selected territories, i.e. five municipalities or inter-municipal communities in the regions of Saint-Louis, Thiès, Fatick, Sédhiou and Ziguinchor. With an average of 22,000 inhabitants per municipality, a total of 110,000 inhabitants will be impacted.
Project duration: 36 months.
